In the former academic year I have received the highest student feedback in the psychology department at UCL: " 'This man lives and breathes the lecture' said one of my friends as we left the lecture theatre in Bedford Way. It would have been impossible to disagree. In fact, to pack out a lecture theatre full of students early on a Monday morning would have been an achievement in itself. People love this flamboyant lecturer so much that there is often not a single seat spare, with many of those arriving on time ending up sitting on the floor. My experience of his teachings is one of eclectically engaging, imaginatively intelligent use of multimedia audio-visuals to capture his spectators (e.g. videos of ground-breaking experiments, music tracks, books and websites). It is highly entertaining to watch his quick witted control over such a diverse group, quick quips, and entertaining habits. He’s funny, yet intimidatingly intense; energetic yet provoking stimulating discussion. His dramatic passion absolutely motivates all his students. He leaves the lecture room full of people sad to see him go, paying tribute to his captivating personality. The rarity of a genuine round of applause from any lecture theatre at UCL makes it evident that he really has mastered the art of inner balance, which he promotes. This man is a brave yet clear thinker. A hidden gem of a lecturer with delighted, captive audiences to prove it." Jake Fairnie, Undergraduate Student “I enrolled to do a 10 week 'introduction to psychology’ course and ended up being totally hooked on the subject and the lecturer! It has been truly inspiring to see someone 'be’ as they 'speak’. Someone who so obviously lives what he is teaching. There is a passion, enthusiasm, knowledge and openness which engaged every member of the group and had most asking how they could continue to study with him. I myself have booked a place on his new course starting in September and can’t wait. I have no doubt that if you come on this course with an open mind and heart then it will do for you exactly 'what it says on the tin’.” Sarah Jane Barnes, Art Director
I believe that teaching should inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential; this is also what drives me in my teaching. Abraham Maslow has coined the term 'self actualization’ when referring to the process of fulfilling potential and realizing one’s dreams and capabilities. This, for me, is the essence of teaching. I aim to provide my students with an array of intellectual and practical tools so that they may use them in order to move towards self-actualization. The questions I raise in my classes correspond to the issues Maslow discusses which lay at the basis of self-actualization: Morality, creativity, lack of prejudice, openness and self-awareness. These issues are interwoven within the teaching of many psychology and spirituality topics.
For the last 5 years I have been teaching at some of the best Universities in the UK including "City University", "Birkbeck" and the "University of Oxford". Since 2005 I have been a full time lecturer in UCL (University College London) Where I teach courses such as 'social psychology' and 'psychology and consciousness'. I have been invited to give research seminars, lectures and workshops in many educational institutions and at numerous private events. For the last 4 years I have been giving meditation workshops in London.
